Get to know us
Derek is a leader in Alcoholic Beverage Law, Real Estate Development, and Zoning and Land Use. He has extensive experience with craft breweries ranging in size from small startups to those with national distribution. His practice includes representation of craft breweries, wineries, and distilleries in a wide range of permitting, regulatory, and trade issues.
Major General Rick Devereaux graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a B.S. in International Affairs and went on to serve 34 years in the Air Force as a pilot, commander, and staff officer. Since leaving the military in 2012, General Devereaux has worked as an independent consultant to defense firms and think tanks, served as an executive vice president for an energy startup company, and is currently an Air Force Adjunct Contract Professor. He has served on the boards of several community and veterans organizations. He lives with his wife in Asheville, NC.
Meredith Ellison is the Director of Organizational Well-Being at Symmetry Financial Group, one of the nation’s leading Insurance Marketing Organizations. She is also the Co-Founder and Director of Organizational Well-Being at Native Kitchen and Social Pub. Ellison obtained a BA in Psychology from the University of Alabama as well as a Masters in Community Counseling from Western Carolina University. She is certified as a Resources For Resiliency (RFR) Resiliency Educator. In her free time, Ellison enjoys spending time with her three children and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Dale is a founding partner of FLS Energy, overseeing its growth from start up to over $350mm in revenue during 2015 when FLS was ranked 27th on the Grant Thornton top 100 privately held NC companies. Dale has facilitated the creation and implementation of management processes that enabled the company to receive recognition as the fastest growing company in North Carolina for two consecutive years by Inc. Magazine . As a nationally certified solar energy designer/installer (NABCEP), Dale led the development of the solar energy system atop the first LEED Platinum-certified hotel in the US, the Proximity Hotel located in Greensboro NC, and oversaw the development, financing and construction of over 450mw of PV capacity. Dale lead a recapitalization process which culminated in the successful merger of FLS with Cypress Creek Renewables. Other milestones include commissioning the largest flat plate solar thermal system in the country at Prestage Farms and over 2000 solar thermal systems on military bases nationwide. He has proudly served on advisory boards for Western Carolina University’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Program and the University of North Carolina Energy Frontier Research Center’s Industrial Advisory Board. He served as a member of the SEIA Federal Advisory Committee and sits on the ACORE Advisory Committee. He is the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient.

Frank Marshall has a background in sales and marketing, real estate, and product development. Most recently, Frank was a partner and Director of Policy and Public Affairs for FLS Energy, a utility scale solar developer based in Asheville, NC. Prior to FLS Energy, Frank owned and operated an Asheville based importing company, co-founded an information and document security firm, was Sales Manager responsible for developing the North American market for a Swiss technical diving instrument manufacturer, and worked in real estate appraisal and feasibility in the Atlanta metro market.
In March of 2019 John left his career with Medtronic to start PubCorps. In a previous life he had worked in the non-profit world as both a fundraiser and an addictions counselor. John, Shanda, Emily, and Cocoa live just outside Asheville where they own Black Mtn Ale House and Blk Mtn Brewing.
I recently completed production for PBS Frontline, The New
York Times, and Purple States for “Life on Parole,” a
documentary/investigative journalism piece about individuals leaving
the prison system. I also finished directing and producing short-video
series for both the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Southern
Poverty Law Center’s Teaching Tolerance program. I have directed and
produced short documentary pieces for Open Society Foundations, the UN
Millennium Campaign, and the Global Fund. My video journalism work has
appeared in USA Today, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and
other publications. I am also an internationally covered art activist,
and the lead singer of a punk band.
Kelly runs operations and logistics for the PubCorps team. She’s also a founder and manager of Asheville Investment Club which in its first year has helped to create over 100 job and deploy over $3mm in the local economy. She has a background working in operations, events, and logistics across the country. In 2020 she hopes to help PubCorps continue to grow and finally add a puppy to the family.
Christopher is excited about the myriad opportunities to serve something greater than himself. He contributes by coordinating website development and troubleshooting various technological riddles. Although he considers himself a Luddite, he knows just enough to be dangerous.
